The Yemeni Ministry of Interior announced Wednesday, July 18, 2012 arresting an Iranian spying network, led by a former Revolutionary Guard officer, coordinating the Iranian intelligence in Yemen and the African Horn. The network had been working for seven years, and it was not the first and wouldn't be the last. The Yemeni security forces had captured before cells and individuals suspected of espionage with Iran, and taking photographs of sea, land and sensitive sites.
It transferred important intelligence information about Yemen over the past years. The Iranian espionage activities on Yemen had been stepped up during the Houthi insurgence in Saada. it seems to reach its climax during the youth revolution in Yemen when the country became open to all who have special purposes.
Before that in 2009, a cell of four spies stood trial, after they were recruited by Iranian intelligence in 1994 and continued in their services until 2009, when the security forces captured them during the sixth war in Saada. Before and after this spying and trials continued, as spies working under religious cover were condemned to death. They were saved in a known story by a Pardon of the former president and today they are engaged in politics.
On the same day of capturing the Iranian espionage cell, Yemen President Hadi accused Iran of interference into his country's affairs, asking them to stop it, by saying "enough is enough." The Iranian behavior drove the Yemeni President who is known by the Yemenis for his silence, drove him out of this silence. Following this a Yemeni official said Yemen is to reconsider summoning their ambassador in Tehran.
The Iranian espionage history is not new in Yemen, and it is not the only illegal activity practiced by Iran in Yemen. They support the Houthis with money and arms and support the south separation, as it was recently confirmed by their spokesman in one of their papers. There is also an Iranian support to an extremist current in the Southern Movement, demanding separation.
There are serious attempts to disrupt the political transition process, the GCC initiative as well as other illegal Iranian activities.
The Iranian interest in Yemen goes back to the existence of Zaidi Shiite in Yemen, in accord with the Sunnis. Iran is seeking through its Houthi agents to transfer them into Wiliat al-Fagih or at least to change them into political Shiites.
It is also seeking to do the same in the Shafie Sunni areas in the country. The Iranian interest in Yemen is attributed to the Yemeni position on the sea trade rout, and its location on the southern Saudi boarders in an area it can use as a starting point for annoying the Arab national security.
The Iranian intervention is clear to everyone, (except the Houthis who deny it like the denial of al-Maliki to Tehran intervention in Iraq.) We kept on saying for years Iran is playing in Yemen, while the Houthis, who are the new agents of the Mulla's regime in Yemen, went on accusing us of being sectarians, racists, agents of the regime, the wahabis, the Zionism, the international forces in addition to other absurd descriptions.
What will the agents of Iran say after the President has revealed the Iranian intervention in the country? The interventions are no longer a secret, with their expansion to the north through the Houthis and south with some of the Southern Movement leaderships who unfortunately spit on their combative past, as well as the abandonment of some of the Nasserite and Ba'athist currents to their Arabic nationalistic ideas who they now seem to obtain from Iran.
What will the new agents of the new "slapping," which they seemed not to master very well say? Will the Houthis resort to accusing President Hadi himself of being an agent to the Yemeni regime, a sectarian, racist and an agent to the international forces and Zionism, or are they going to be silent, which is unlikely that they will do.
We said it before and will say it today and continue to repeat it; the Iranian hands in Yemen are only loyal to Iran. Some who read the ideas of this fundamentalist movements cannot imagine that the loyalty of a certain group will be to entities other than their country, (this means the doctrine of Houthi group and not the followers, who, had been misled.)
The hierarchal structure of these fundamentalist movements stipulates loyalty to the reference. This needs no effort for explaining it, because such groups are based on the loyalty to their Imam and unfortunately their Imam is in Tehran.
They are like the Israeli lobby in America who are accused of Dual loyalty. The only difference between the two groups is the Israeli lobby is accused of dual loyalty to America and Israel, while the Houthis' only loyalty is to the Wali al-Fagih in Iran.
This reminds of the behavior of the Arab Shiite groups and regimes, who share the same principles in their policy towards Iran. Years before, the Syrian Arab Ba'thist Hafez al-Asaad, stood with Iran against the Arab Ba'th regime of Sadam Hussein. There was no explanation to this behavior other than the sectarian belonging.
There are dozens of evidences of the loyalty of the Shiites in the Gulf area and Lebanon to the Fagih system. They put at his disposal the fifth money (Islamic booty money,) . Instead of putting this money under the disposal of their people, they send it away to Iran or to finance the Iranian policies abroad. This shows the preference of the Iranian loyalty to the national one. They consider the loyalty to their state not to get them closer to hell or paradise, while they consider the disobedience to al-Fagih to be equivalent to disobeying God.
The Houthis are not an exception from these groups. Their loyalty is based on detestable sectarianism. It is a fact which we have to stand before it without political bargaining, because the homeland security should be put before everything.
We should deal firmly with the sensitive country's issues, without dealing with the Iranian espionage in the same previous way, when condemnations use to be issued against spies in the Yemeni Mula's guise and then they are pardoned on political considerations to form political parties.
When the sectarian religious loyalty is given priority over the national loyalty, the state has to interfere.
Yemen is now open to all kinds of ideas and interventions, the intelligence men and Iran are not the only in this respect. The difference between Iran and the others is the intervention of the non -Iranians came in the form of sponsors to an initiative that saved the Yemenis from a civil war, despite there are opponents to it.
The Iranian intervention came through insurgent or extremist movements calling for separation. They will soon face the political change challenges, or some politically ambitious individuals, who have no existence in reality, but they want to enlarge their size from the (clean) money, whose blessing covered many of our Arab countries that are infested with dictatorship and the ignorance of (the brotherly Iran.)
