An identity under arrest

I’m not a thief, murderer or smuggler, however my name and nickname were suspicious. For the first time I find that I’m a dangerous man banned from travelling. Oh my God! What a paradox which is difficult to be understood and perceived? In this country, there are those thieves of whose stolen money fill the banks of Switzerland, Germany, America and the Gulf countries. Despite the great amount of money they have looted and wasted, I have never heard that any of them have been banned from travelling.

There are murderers, apathetic, smugglers and terrorists who are able travel with diplomatic passports that can open any closed door to the devil. On the other side, an ordinary citizen like me goes to take an ordinary passport to find himself wanted or banned. If only it was me; it would have become an easy matter and I would say: “how wrongful they were when they brought you here, computer? As a matter of fact the computer is a blessing to the immigration staff and the passengers as well, but it is a curse on the Yemeni people who has been   degraded and despised in their very simple rights.

Yes, I had feelings of fear and sadness . I felt fear when I knew that my passport was under arrest by an employee or say a stupid computer that does not distinguish between a killer of protesters and an apathetic who ravaged the country by looting and ruining, and another one whose only crime is his name and identity that created ambiguity to the employee in the Immigration Authority in Sana’a. On the other hand I felt sad when I was certain that it was not a matter of mistake or confusion. Many mistakes are made in a country characterized by chaos and anarchy, however, After days of checking up with the Aden Immigration Authority I found no satisfactory answer to justify such barbaric behavior which violated the simplest basic human right. Such tragedy cause disappointment and tears. Even those employees who do their work in fantastic and beautiful way had nothing to do with this matter. They carry out their transactions without disturbances, abuse or questioning like those of the era of the seventies. Their job ends up with a click on a computer key or coming across a checking eye that is keen to clear the country not from the dirt but rather from cleanliness.

Their work usually goes in vain because of needless rough tutelage administrative procedures, which needs no more than a signature or a revision by the specialist. Though the transaction is so easy, however the center insists on imposing the Imamate culture and mentality which refuses any transaction that is not approved by the representatives of God. If the Imam is not present his representative is there to carry out the task.

It is an impudence and farce! Is there anything more ridiculous and worse than watching the killers, smugglers and thieves traveling to wherever and whenever they wanted? Not only this, but in private planes, passports and ways that are not subject to any control. To the contrary of this freedom; every path is completely closed to the extent of eliminating any purity, honesty and respect left in this country.

I am not talking here about a personal right, but about   the right that concerns basic principles of the   community rights. I did not ask for more than an identity that proofs my citizenship, as a person belonging to this poor country that expels its people as a result of corruption by people in charge of its affairs. The least right a person should get in this country is an identity card or a travel document. Despite my modest request, the reality is that all things and rights are buffeted by the claws of corruption. Even the Aden immigration officials and their managers did not survive this corruption riffraff.

Do you know  the problem of this country? It lies in these actions that abuse the state, its authority and its regime. It     humiliates human dignity, pride and nationality. The epidemic that the society suffere is the absence of a good example in our daily lives. The domination of corruption and chaos as a method and way of earning a living is undoubtedly disastrous and destructive to justice, virtue and values. When exemplary leadership disappears from our lives, chaos and corruption become an effective means to oppress and humiliate people. This becomes an indication that decay and destruction have affected everything; from the minds and morals to people, values, regime and conscience.
