The Ahwaz News website cited Military Governor of Ahwaz as saying that the Iranian President Ahmadinejad rejects the Military Governor's meeting with Arabs citizens.
"If he knew that I met Ahwaz Arabs, he would dismiss me from my office," Governor Hijazi said.
In the meanwhile, Abdullah Sameri, the representative of Ahwaz City in the Iranian Parliament, said that "representatives of Ahwazian cities at the Parliament of Persian State summoned the Military Governor to a meeting with them to explain miserable situations witnessed by Ahwaz, but the Governor rejected to attend any meeting with representatives of Ahwaz".
"The Military Governor's words, that Ahmadinejad refuses his meeting with citizens, are an indication of his insulting Arabs and his disdain for them," Mr. Sameri added.
The Ahwaz has witnessed under the current military governor an increase in rates of poverty, unemployment, executions and arbitrary arrests, and an increasingly surge in settlement with Persian settlers being brought to Ahwaz and large projects being established to divert the course of Ahwazi rivers.
