Once again Russia objects to the new resolution on Syria that Washington plans to propose in the Security Council. It is an unbalanced resolution, argued Russia, since it does not address both parties in the conflict: the murderer and the murdered that is.

The draft resolution “demands” that the Syrian government halt all forms of violence immediately and “invites” the opposition to do the same. It also “demands” that the Syrian authorities allow humanitarian aid to reach all parts of the country.
In diplomatic terminology, the word “demand” is much stronger than “invite” and this is what Russia has reservations on. According to France Press, Russia is calling for “equality” between both parties.

The international community was hoping that Russia might change its mind about Syria following presidential elections, but everything is still the same even with the resentment expressed by of the majority of Arab League members as well as the Arab people and with the number of Syrians killed by the regime amounting to 9,000.

The Syrian regime rejected a six-article Chinese proposal that called for an immediate ceasefire and the start of negotiations, offered sending humanitarian aid to Syrian cities, and stressed objection to foreign intervention in Syria. After that, Chinese envoys were dispatched to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and France to explain their country’s position after Beijing was faced with harsh criticism for its support of Bashar al-Assad.

On the other hand, China’s endorsement of the mission assigned to U.N. and Arab League envoy to Syria former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Anan could be indicative of an imminent change in China’s stance.

Yet Russia remains unwavering in its support for Assad’s killing machine and argues that the Syrian crisis will be resolved through negotiations. For Russia, the time factor is not the most important while in fact the more time the Syrian regime is allowed, the more people it kills. The Syrian regime has not stopped its daily killing of civilians for the past year not to mention the injured and the refugees as well as the deplorable conditions in which people in every Syrian city and town live.

In the middle of all this, Russia accuses Saudi Arabia of supporting terrorism in Syria and launches an attack on the kingdom for its support of the Syrian people and which is representative of both the Arab street and the international community. Russia’s accusations, which are similar to those propagated in the Syrian media, are about terrorism while it is relentlessly encouraging the Syrian regime’s practice of state terrorism and genocide and, thus, violating all human principles and international laws.

Until when will Russia continue giving unconditional support to every tyrannical regime and every dictator that kills defenseless civilians?
