A prominent Egyptian figure cautioned that Saudi Arabia and some other Arab states are attempting to undermine the Egyptian revolution and control its political process through flushing large amounts of money into some newly formed political parties in Egypt.
Speaking to FNA on Monday, Egypt's prominent Shiite leader Rasim al-Nafis stated that different Egyptian political groups and statement have found out that large volumes of money and financial support have been injected into the country .
The assets are coming into Egypt from Arabic Gulf littoral states, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Nafis said, adding that the issue has been acknowledged by groups such as Ansar al-sunnah Society.
He noted that Saudi Arabia is not the sole source of this money and the UAE and Kuwait are funding political parties in Egypt, too.
He added that members of the Egyptian National Congress party have formed 7 new political parties using this financial support in a bid to participate in upcoming parliamentary elections.
Parliamentary polls will kick off on November 28 and are to take place over four months.
The ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which Tantawi heads, has yet to set a date for the presidential election.
